2013 hyundai genesis coupe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This affordable, good-looking rear-wheel-drive sport coupe gets a refresh for 2013, including a redesigned front end, more powerful engines, a new 8-speed automatic transmission and a longer list of standard features.  the most significant update is under the hood, where a choice of two engines and a larger intercooler help to achieve even more power. The v6, which is now direct-injected for better efficiency, goes from 306 hp to 348 hp.  the 2013 genesis coupe is available with a new 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which replaces the previous 6-speed automatic. A 6-speed manual gearbox carried over from the previous model remains available.  a retuned suspension goes along with the 2013 genesis coupe, as well as improved handling in the form of sharper steering.  while gains in power are impressive, improvement in fuel economy is modest. Even with the new 8-speed automatic, fuel economy improves by only one mile per gallon in most cases. The 2013 hyundai genesis coupe 2. 0 gets an epa-rated 21/30 mpg with 6-speed manual, 20/31 mpg with 8-speed automatic. The v6-powered 2013 genesis coupe 3. 8 is rated 18/27 mpg with 6-speed manual, 18/28 mpg with 8-speed automatic. All models require premium gasoline.  in the cabin, the 2013 hyundai genesis coupe gets a redesigned center stack and gauges, including electroluminescent lighting. But despite its higher price, this sport coupe still remains a great bang for the buck.  the hyundai genesis coupe is a stiff competitor to the american pony cars: the ford mustang, chevrolet camaro and dodge challenger. Hyundai's rear-wheel-drive platform also makes it a toothier alternative to the mazda mx-5, a perennial spec-racing favorite. While the genesis coupe is still a top choice in this segment, more competition has come with the introduction of the scion fr-s and subaru brz. lineupthe 2013 hyundai genesis coupe comes in two basic models: genesis coupe 2. 0t and genesis coupe 3. 8. The 2. 0t r-spec comes only with the manual, and the 2. 0t premium only with the automatic. Xm satellite radio and bluetooth capability are also standard across the line. In exchange, the r-spec adds 19-inch wheels with 40-series summer tires (instead of all-season tires), a brembo braking system, track-tuned suspension, limited slip differential, black leather seats with red cloth inserts, and matching cloth and leather inside door trim.  the 3. 8 lineup begins with r-spec trim, plus fog lights. The top-of-the-line track adds the sunroof; cruise control; automatic climate control; the 360-watt stereo; folding and heated features to the outside mirrors, which include integrated turn signals; automatic xenon hid headlights; aerodynamic front wipers; a body-color rear spoiler; aluminum pedals and other metallic trim. It also sports a backup warning system, brown leather seats and other unique trim inside and out.  safety equipment includes frontal, side-impact and side-curtain airbags. The front seats have active, anti-whiplash head restraints. The rear seat comes outfitted with child safety seat anchors. Active safety features include antilock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, electronic stability control with traction control and tire pressure monitors. The design gets mixed reviews from experts and enthusiasts, as some prefer the sleeker lines of the first generation. New fog lights and led daytime running lamps also debut on the revised front fascia.  in back, there are new led tail lights and chromed dual exhaust tips, as well as a blacked-out rear diffuser panel. From the side, the genesis coupe keeps its signature z-shape character lines.  there are several new race-inspired exterior colors, named after famous racetracks and turns, including becketts black, catalunya copper, circuit silver, gran premio gray, monaco white, parabolica blue, and shoreline drive blue. Wheel styles are also new. interiorinterior materials have been upgraded on the 2013 genesis coupe with a variety of soft-touch materials. New color combinations are available for 2013, including tan leather, red cloth and leather combos, and gray cloth and leather pairings. Though they were designed to look sporty, they end up looking more like an 80s swatch. And though hyundai touts the genuine stitching on the dash, it's plastic-y looking and flat. We had to ask a rep to slide a needle under the stitches to prove it wasn't pressed on. We found some fit and finish issues with interior panels near the driver and passenger knee areas, too, although hyundai reps tell us the preproduction cars we were driving won't necessarily be identical to the versions that will go on sale.  the front seats are comfortable but sufficiently assertive to hold the backside in place during spirited driving, especially in the 2. 0t with its basic black cloth. The 3. 8's leather is a nice touch of semi-luxury. The back seats are only for small children and, in some states, lower insurance premiums.  the steering wheel feels good, with just the right rim thickness and cross section. On automatics, the column-mounted shift paddles are easy to reach. But on manuals, the rectangular shifter might feel awkward to those used to a round shift knob that fits nicely in hand. The 7-inch touch screen that comes with the 2. 0 premium trim is sufficient but not spectacular.  front-seat roominess is very good by coupe standards. Front-seat headroom in the genesis coupe tops that in the mazda rx-8 and bmw 3 series coupe (both outgoing models) by about one inch, while legroom bests those two by at least an and inch and a half. Hip room in the genesis coupe's front seats is wider by almost three inches than in the rx-8's seats.  if rear seats must be added to the chart, the coupe does not fare well, trailing in head room by two inches, in leg room by two to three inches or more, but eking out a win by one inch over the rx-8 in hip room. Drivers who want rear-seat room may want to opt for the genesis sedan.  with 10 cubic feet of cargo space, the genesis coupe holds more than the mazda rx-8 (7. 6 cu. Ft.), a little less than the bmw 3 series coupe (11 cu. The rear seat of the genesis coupe folds down to increase cargo capacity, but th.

2007 hyundai elantra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, an affordable car without frills or thrills. introductionthe 2007 hyundai elantra has been totally redesigned. Now, for the first time, the elantra features handsome styling with nice lines. That's a strong heap, but the elantra stands on top in two areas, interior space and standard safety equipment. Designed by an american team in california, the elantra's looks are better than ever, but it still has the soul of a mature person's car; that is, someone who might put practicality ahead of coolness. The increased size has been used to good advantage inside the spacious cabin; not only that, there are storage compartments galore. It's clear that someone has been doing some thinking about this car. The seats are very comfortable and it's quiet at speed. The back seats offer ample hip room and adequate legroom. Because the elantra generally costs less than the competition, it might well be a long-term bargain. Xm satellite radio is built into the sound system.  the se 15,695) is the sporty model and includes all the options in the gls preferred package, plus a telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and 16-inch alloy wheels with wider profile tires. The only option is a premium package that includes a power sunroof and heated front seats.  the limited 16,695) features leather seating surfaces and trim, and heated front seats. Electronic stability control is not available. It comes with the automatic transmission and is available in gls, se or limited trim. walkaroundthe 2007 elantra was designed by americans in hyundai's california studio, and its styling is totally new, and radically different. It's vastly better looking than before; the elantra no longer announces that it's for old folks. It's 2. 2 inches taller, 2. 0 inches wider, and 1. 6 inches longer in wheelbase than the previous-generation elantra. Still, with all the aggressive designs on the road nowadays, a compact car like the elantra, clean as it is, won't catch many eyes.  the new elantra has received a lot of careful work, and could pass for being seamless. That quality fitting also reveals itself in the smooth opening and closing of the doors.  the elantra's good looks move this korean compact car toward the world of the stylish. Its sculpture is clean, with a high beltline running along at the body-colored door handles. It's got a subtle face, with trapezoidal headlamps having rounded edges, leading down and in to a cup-shaped grille with three simple chrome bars. At the bottom of the fascia is a long, slim air intake with two bars. It lacks definitive fender flares because it doesn't need them; the elantra doesn't shout to be seen. The wheel covers, which are silver plastic on the gls, look good from a distance. interiorthe redesigned hyundai elantra is larger for 2007, making for a roomier car than the toyota corolla or honda civic. The added width and height increase the elantra's cabin volume to 112. 1 cubic feet, tops in the compact class; the nissan sentra is a close second with 110. 8, but the toyota corolla with 103. 9 and honda civic with 102. 9 are far behind. The elantra's interior space actually meets the government's standard for mid-size.  the front seats are quite comfortable, with good bolstering, and the standard beige cloth is smooth but decidedly un-hip, unlike, say, the material in the mazda3. The arcs of the speedo and tach are a thin blue line, with red needles pointing the way.  the radio control knobs are blessedly simple, like radio knobs used to be. But we didn't care for the trim on the dash; imagine a silver plastic golf ball.  in the rear, the 35 inches of leg room is a half-inch more than the civic and sentra, and a half-inch less than the corolla, give or take a tenth. But the elantra has the most hip room. It also has the largest trunk, by a significant amount.  for carrying cargo, the rear seatbacks fold down to allow a pass-through into the trunk. However, the opening isn't vast like the nissan sentra's.  storage compartments are abundant. There's a neat box inside the top of the dash, and a sunglasses container in the headliner. The fixed door pockets have built-in bottle holders. Below the three climate control knobs there's a small companion to the glovebox, and below that, forward of the shift lever, there's also an open storage area. There are two cupholders behind that, and a double console under the driver's elbow.  generally, the interior is notably quiet, for a compact car. Then the wind picked up, and as we watched the dust devils ahead of us on the road, we listened to the whooshing against the glass. driving impressionthe new 2007 hyundai elantra takes some solid strides toward spirited handling. The elantra is surprisingly, pleasantly, game, however. It's a rare front-wheel-drive compact car that can pass this test. The elantra will spin the inside front wheel, but it keeps turning around the corner instead of sliding straight ahead. The suspension engineers have done something right, in the front end of the elantra.  the elantra is softer all around than the sportier nissan sentra or mazda3. Overall, it's a good fit for someone who just wants good transportation without attitude. It asks less involvement from the driver than those other two.  the brakes are excellent. We really stood on them a few times, and they didn't allow the car to dart or weave while they sharply brought down the speed.  the five-speed manual gearbox worked well. The tachometer shows 3500 rpm at that speed, and it's not in the least bit buzzy. It also accelerates away at low rpm in a higher gear, with 136 pound-feet of torque.  the elantra gets about 28 city and 36 miles per gallon. The mileage has been improved by small engine enhancements. 2010 hyundai tucson review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, all-world euro crossover. introductionthe all-new 2010 hyundai tucson is the strongest evidence yet that this ambitious company, once a fledgling korean maker of cheap econoboxes, has become a bona fide international manufacturer of first-quality world cars. Just a glance back at the prior model of tucson demonstrates how much progress hyundai has achieved with its brand-new compact crossover. The preponderance of the tucson's design and engineering took place in hyundai's frankfurt-based european tech center, and the product shows it. This is a get-serious crossover (very little about it suggests a truck) that is well appointed, efficient, fuel-stingy and pleasingly fun to drive. It declares in no uncertain terms that hyundai is the real thing.  the 2010 tucson is 61 pounds lighter than the previous model, while being longer and wider than its chief rivals, the honda cr-v, ford escape and subaru forester. The tucson is also the winner in the power-to-weight ratio battle, the key to good performance with good fuel mileage, outstripping, the cr-v, escape, forester, as well as toyota's rav4 and nissan's rogue.  the tucson is hotly competitive in efficiency, as well. And the tucson's presence is newsworthy because it is so un-korean. Simply that this sporty, aggressive new design is decidedly european in flavor, capturing the crisp, agile look german styling studios are famous for.  and the tucson skillfully tricks the eye, to its own benefit. Just as the huge audi q7 manages to appear smaller and more athletic than it is, the new tucson does just the opposite. Its very high beltline and somewhat squinty side-window configuration make this vehicle appear larger and more capacious than it really is. The impact of this is apt to give the viewer a feeling of getting more for the money. Skillfully done.  simply put, the all-new 2010 hyundai tucson is an exceptionally well calculated vehicle that delivers roomy interior space, crisp performance and very good fuel efficiency. The gls is also available with an automatic transmission 19,995). The tucson gls awd 23,195) includes all-wheel drive, the automatic and leatherette upholstery.  the optional gls popular equipment package 1,700) adds telescoping steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto up/down driver window, leatherette wcloth inserts, leather-wrapped wheel and shifter, bluetooth hands-free phone, illuminated vanity mirrors, steering wheel audio controls, cruise control, bodycolor door handles and heated mirrors, privacy glass, roof side rails, engine cover. Navi package 3,700) includes the popular equipment package, navigation system with 6. 5-inch screen, rearview camera, premium audio with external amplifier and subwoofer, automatic headlights.  tucson limited 24,345) and limited awd 25,845) upgrade to leather seating, heated front seats, power driver seat with lumbar, dual-zone temperature control, solar glass, cargo cover, chrome grille and door handles, foglights, front wiper de-icer, side repeater exterior mirrors, 18-inch alloy wheels. All-wheel drive is optional. walkaroundthe hyundai people we spoke with while testing the new tucson were excited about proclaiming this a european design. Undeniably it is, taking advantage of the current european taste for dynamic thrusting forms and aggressive angularities. This crossover is nothing if not modern. It has swoopy lines darting to and fro along its flanks, nose and tail. A huge, deeply slanted windshield provides excellent forward perspective for the driver, but for rear seat passengers, looking out of the tucson's narrow side windows is a little like peering out the gun slit of an armored car.  and there will be those who find the tucson's exterior a little busy looking, while others will find that standing next to the tucson and looking down its door sides, it looks oddly slab-sided, bigger and heavier than it really is.  as always, there is ample room for debate about the tucson's styling. The one point that is not debatable is this crossover's high expectations. Its styling is up to the minute, as aggressive as any crossover in the world market. This hyundai gets an a-plus.  the dashboard's black pebble-grain covering is handsome and anything but econo. The dashboard instruments are straightforward and dignified, with a water temperature and fuel gauge delivered in electronic readouts. To the left of the steering column are controls for hill assist, a stability-control off switch and the differential locker control.  cruise control and audio switches are provided on the steering wheel, with phone controls partially hidden inside the wheel rim.  the center console, too, is simply laid out, offering audio controls, a navigation system and bluetooth mp3 capability. Here we encountered one weakness in the tucson, its forward-slanting navigation screen was all but blinded by glare on sunny days. On the other hand, it is blessedly straightforward to use, with a proper radial knob provided for tuning the audio. Defrost front and rear and individual seat-heater controls are easily selected, while xm is the satellite server of choice, and it should be.  the front seats are excellent both in terms of firm support and high-quality leather. But adequate is better than nothing, and in this class of vehicles, the tucson is more than competitive.  the hyundai-designed six-speed automatic transmission is smooth-shifting and excellent, giving the tucson a big advantage in efficiency over other vehicles in its class. Additionally, its manual shifting capability is particularly good. We drove both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive and found a surprising difference between them. The all-wheel-drive chassis's ride was noticeably harsher than the front-driver's. This proved particularly true when driving the top-of-the-line limited awd with 18-inch wheels.
